SAKHEE BHURE

INSTRUCTOR: ASSET Summer Program 2019, Education Initiatives, India
April 2019 - July 2019

I developed and taught a three-week, introductory, hands-on astrophysics course titled Shooting for the Stars: Astrophysics and Astronomy for 22 students in grades 6, 7, 8, and 9 at the ASSET Summer Program in May 2019.

Graduate Teaching Assistant Department of Physics and Space Sciences
August 2017 - December 2017

I taught PHY 2091: Physics Laboratory I (Mechanics) to two sections (43 students total) at Florida Institute of Technology. I received overwhelmingly positive reviews from mid-and end-of-semester course evaluations.

Intern, Science Activity Center (SAC), Indian Institute for Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune
February 2020 - July 2021

Science Writing: I worked on the writing and editing of the description or explanation of the scientific concepts applied in each activity or its explanatory video developed by SAC in order to convey the science accurately as well as to generate curiosity and encourage further exploration about that concept. These activities or videos, primarily aimed towards young children, have been uploaded on the SAC website or YouTube channel, and published in scientific and educational publications. A handbook of 50 of these activities has also been published.
Curriculum Development: I worked on a project funded by Tata Technologies to train local teachers in incorporating hands-on activities in their classrooms. As part of the core team, I participated in the development of activity-based lesson plans covering the different science and mathematics topics introduced and studied in grades 6-10 and led the team working on the biology lesson plans. I also proofread and formatted each one of the 101 text lesson plans and reviewed the 100 videos developed as part of this project.
Additionally, I worked on optimising the communication and collaboration within teams and subgroups working on different aspects of this project.
I assisted with the production of the “Next-Gen Science Camps” video series by organising, sorting, and filtering questions received from audience for the Question and Answer session conducted in the one part of each video, and moderating the live chat and answering questions asked therein during the live stream. I also reviewed each session and provide feedback in order to enhance both, the quality of content presented in the video and audience engagement during its presentation.

TEACHING (VOLUNTEER WORK)

Akanksha Foundation, Pune
July 2019 - March 2020

I volunteered at the Pujya Kasturba Gandhi English Medium School. I primarily assisted the grade 8 teacher and Teach for India fellow, Namita Agarwal. My responsibilities included focused, differentiated teaching of mathematics to students who have learning gaps, assisting in designing and grading exams, observing patterns in learning challenges faced by students, helping with administrative tasks, and making charts and posters for the classrooms. I have designed two multiple-choice mathematics exams aimed towards challenging students in lateral thinking as well as co-developed two separate projects focused on community building and waste management.
